it's a boy!!!

the new Jones baby was brought home wednesday, september 23, 2009 at 6:45pm. weighing 19 lbs 1 oz, this beautiful piece of work is the new light of my life. he is still lacking a name, but responds quickly to 'baby' for now.

the ride home from the 'hospital' (aka TriLab) was an interesting one. there were some insults thrown by taunto - he had to give up his front tire to allow room for the new baby. he wasn't happy. some comment about demasculinating/castrating him in front of the new kid, i don't know. had to seperate the 2 of them (granted, it was with a towel, but it was for their own good).
Technical verbiage from Ridley:
'-Flow jet foils reduce drag by 7.5% by drawing turbulent air away from spokes.
- Surface paint technology reduces drag by 4% by increasing laminar flow.
- Every tube is constructed to maximize aerodynamics and power transfer.
- Internally routed cables and aero positioned brakes for a smooth airflow.
- Frame: 50, 40 and 30-ton high modulus carbon fiber.
- Fork: 4ZA R-Flow full carbon monocoque.'

Technical verbiage from Me:
this bike is fucking badass. period.

took my new baby out for a spin in the desert of nevada this weekend. i still need a bike fit, but had no time last week. we went out and rode a small section of the las vegas tri bike course. the inaugural ride was interesting. it's an amazing ride, to put it mildly. i was bummed that the heat, dehydration, HR out of control, and time were all pressing factors on my first ride, but there are only so many things you can control.

my most immediate dilemma (aside from his name, of course) is this coming weekend's race. which do i ride? it's a long-er ride, certainly longer than i'm used to when slammed between a long-er swim and a longer run than my legs have ever seen consecutively. could be quite interesting. i've recently heard horror stories of bikes being LITERALLY thrown into the back of a truck, landing wherever (LA Tri has 2 different transitions for those of you unaware). if this is the case, taunto will be the 'chosen one'. no, he's not aware; he might know something's up since he's currently missing pedals, but he never was the sharpest tool in the shed to begin with. but it's not like taunto doesn't know the course. our first race this season took us through the (dicey/dark/dangerous) streets of downtown LA. we know our way around.
